The Baux de Provence is one of the most renowned sites of Provence. The medieval village is located in the Alpilles, perched on a rocky outcrop with steep cliffs, dominated by the ruins of a great medieval fortress. The village of Les Baux de Provence is reminiscent of an eagle's nest, the scenery is spectacular and attracts many tourists each year. The town was gradually deserted by its inhabitants from the 17th century and almost abandoned in the 19th century to the villages of the plain below: Maussane and Paradou.
